Our beliefs

Here at Living In Space we all share a passion for the environment. Our preference is to design and build in such a way as to not harm the environment or the people within it, now or in the future.

Living In Space and our environment

– Our electricity is powered by wind turbines
– We give all our old fabric books and materials to local schools or charity shops
– We use reclaimed building materials where possible and all the wood we use is from FSC/PEFC regulated sources
– We recycle
– We give away a percentage of our profits to charitable initiatives

We have worked hard over the last year to build up our own library of eco-friendly products and services, ranging from sustainably sourced furniture, to renewable energy installations. We hope to make it a feasible and cost effective option for you to explore eco-friendly alternatives whilst also upholding the same high standards of design and build. The page opposite details our 7-step programme to improving the environmental footprint of your home.

Your Home

We understand that everyone has differing opinions on how “green” they want to be. Consequently, we have devised a programme set out below to enable a smooth transition when retro-fitting your home with eco-friendly alternatives…

Step 1

Evaluate the current situation within your home. Carry out an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) check.

Step 2

Establish targets. You may want a full system overhaul with renewable energy solutions, or you may be happy knowing that the flooring or furniture materials are from sustainable sources.

Step 3

Review government grants and new technologies available

Step 4

We will then devise a package of technical solutions to achieve the maximum benefit for you and the environment, at the minimum cost.

 

Step 5

Presentation to you of our cost benefit analysis for the whole job.

Step 6

Implementation – Initiate the build works of the eco-friendly changes. Create a table of scoring – How it rates in the code for sustainable homes; cost/CO2 savings for the year and also the lifetime; payback times etc.

Step 7

Monitor performance. Devise a maintenance strategy and also ensure construction team monitor this.
